Doing it his way
Thaksin Shinawatra has been sending out all the right messages to Man City fans in his bid to win them over. In his latest statement he promised to out surpass their rivals Man United’s popularity in Asia. All well and good, but for City fans all they want is to out surpass their rivals in Britain as well.
Bookmakers Victor Chandler have priced up City at 9/2 to be ahead of United by the end of August, and 25/1 to be ahead of their rivals on Christmas Day. Not surprisingly it’s 100/1 that they finish the season ahead on points.
Nick Blezard, football odds compiler with VC, said City fans might fancy their chances in August. “The best chance for punters will be the 9/2 on City to be ahead of United after the first four games. Included in that is the Manchester derby at Eastlands, and if City were to get off to a flyer, with possibly Sven at the helm in his honeymoon period, it could represent good value.”
The firm have also priced up the possibility of another Chinese addition to the City squad apart from Sun Jihai before the Premiership season kicks off. It’s odds on 4/5 that it happens.
Man City to beat West Ham on opening day of the season 7/2
Man City to be in higher Premiership position than Man United on August 31st 2007 9/2
Man City to be in higher Premiership position than Man United on Christmas Day 2007 25/1
Man City to be in higher Premiership position than Man United at the end of the season 100/1
Man City to sign another Chinese player (apart from Sun Jihai) before 11th August 2007 4/5

£1/4 MILLION PAY OUT GOES WEST WITH VC BET
One high roller with VC Bet was sweating on Sunday night with his £110,000 bet on Manchester United and Barcelona winning their respective leagues still in the balance when Mallorca took an unlikely lead against Real Madrid who were 1/10 to win the game and clinch the Primera Liga.
The wager which was placed early in February when both sides were at 1/2 stood the Highgate-based client to win £247,500 but Real Madrid ran out ready 3-1 winners and despite Barcelona winning easily Beckham’s farewell party dashed his hopes.
